Job Summary:  The Legal Officer provides support to the Senior Legal Officer to provide legal advice and representation on all matters, pertaining to the mandate and transactions of our client’s operations. Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Reviewing, amending and drafting of agreements, equity investment and other facility agreements for compliance purposes
  • Follow up with organisation officials, law firms, financial institutions and registries to ensure that all agreements are legally enforceable
  • Representation in courts of law; preparation and filing of pleadings and related court documents
  • Preparation of bills, policies, legal briefs, and reports

  • Carrying out searches, registrations and filing at various Government Departments, Agencies, Courts of Judicature and others as may be required.
  • Evaluation and general handling of collateral documents to ascertain compliance with policies and other legal requirements.
  • Act as a focal point for internal and external Compliance Audits
  • Rendering in-house legal services
  • Participation in local, regional and international contract negotiations
  • Undertaking legal research
  • Assisting in the procurement processes, mainly in preparation and evaluation of bids, reviewing draft procurement contracts and provision of legal guidance

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Law (Hons) and a Diploma in Legal Practice and an enrolled advocate of the High Court of Uganda.
  • Three years’ experience in legal practice and litigation in a law firm or as an in house lawyer in a private or public organization
  • Broad knowledge and understanding of relevant laws and how they are applied knowledge and experience of litigation (including ability to draft legal briefs and memoranda).

The Position:  

The Campus Communications Manager will play a key role in executing Akilah’s communications strategy at our Kigali Campus. He or she will be responsible for managing day-to-day campus communications operations and logistics.

The Campus Communications Manager will work closely with our headquarters in Hong Kong and the Digital Marketing Manager to develop and execute a marketing and communications plan for an international organization. This role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, from event planning to public relations to communications coaching.

This position is ideal for professionals with a background in communications, marketing, and/or operations. He or she should be meticulous, highly organized, creative, an excellent communicator, and a self-starter. We’re a fast-paced organization looking for someone who can adapt and learn quickly.

This position is based in Kigali, Rwanda & the Campus Communications Manager reports to the Chief Marketing Officer.

Roles and responsibilities:

Campus Communications Liaison

  • Serve as on-campus point-of-contact for communications needs
  • Advise colleagues re: communications/marketing protocol and direct requests to the appropriate person on the communications team
  • Oversee content collection for Akilah’s bi-monthly internal newsletter
  • Facilitate on-campus implementation of large-scale communications projects, such as new marketing campaigns and updates to existing communications materials
  • Manage work-study students
  • Maintain an up-to-date calendar of campus events
  • Provide content for social media and the Akilah blog as needed
  • Contribute to communications/marketing brainstorming and strategy sessions

Desired skills and Qualifications

  • At least five years of professional experience in communications, marketing, or a related field

FINANCE AND AWARDS DIRECTOR

Save the Children is seeking a Finance and Awards Director for a USAID-funded school community partnerships education project. This position is a maternity cover for a five-month period, from October 2018 through to February 2019. The Finance and Awards Director is responsible for the management of financial processes and procedures and will lead in setting up project accounting systems and procedures as per Save the Children and USAID standards. The Director will work with country office Finance and Awards management team to provide financial data analysis to the SMT and meet Save the Children and USAID reporting requirements. S/he will also provide audit support and provide capacity building to partner finance staff as needed in terms of financial management, systems, and procedures. This position will also provide dedicated USAID compliance support and proactive compliance monitoring for risk assurance and capacity building (especially with regard to local subgrantees).

Qualifications and experience

  • Minimum of 5 years management experience in a corporate or an NGO environment within the finance department; knowledge of USAID financial management rules and regulations strongly preferred;
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in finance, business or management, or related degree in relevant field required, CPA or equivalent degree (CA, ACMA, ACCA) strongly recommended;
  • Excellent understanding of business and financial planning including strategic modeling
  • Excellent analytical skills – the ability to analyze complex financial data and design and produce effective management information

Job Summary:  The Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) Officer will provide overall technical leadership for the MEAL approach and strategy for the Food, Income and Livelihood Programme (FILP). The Officer will provide MEAL expertise in the development and implementation of the MEAL plan, build capacities of programme staff and ensure that data quality standards are monitored, met and reported timely. The position requires regular monitoring field visits to assess programme progress.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
·         Provide leadership to FILP in terms of knowledge management and learning with a particular focus on the use of scientifically sound and practical methods of capturing outcomes and impact of interventions.
·         Implement the MEAL plan framework for the programme and develop approaches and tools based on agreed results frame and theory of change.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
Organizational Development

Reports to:Senior Statistician
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Collecting, analyzing and storing data;
  • Producing statistical reports;
  • Appraising development projects;
  • Organizing and implementing national surveys;
  • Providing technical support on statistical matters
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • Applicants should be Ugandans in possession of an Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics; or Business Statistics; or Economics; or Mathematics from recognised University/Institution.
  • Competencies: Ethics and Integrity; Interpersonal; Communication and Computer Skills; ability to adapt to multi-cultural settings; effective organisational and planning skills; time management skills; technical skills; report writing skills; negotiation skills; capacity for teamwork; innovation and concern for results, quality and standards.
  • Age: Above 21 years
